Easy to use, but limited ability to modify functionality

If you need a straightforward analog data logger this will work well for you. The device is simple to setup using the web interface without much technical knowledge and the build quality is very solid. However, it is not possible to modify your collection routines from what can be done with the simple interface. We had intend to sample from the digital inputs simultaneously with the analog ones, but the web interface only allows you to use the digital I/O pins as triggers and alarms. Having the option to expand functionality for more advanced users would be nice.

Thanks for purchasing the WebDAQ 504 and for taking the time to review the product. I would like to point out that the WebDAQ 504 does offer digital triggering as an option to start and stop an acquisition. The digital trigger has a maximum delay of 10ms between when the trigger is set and when data acquisition is started or stopped. If this delay is too long, you can also feed your digital trigger to one of the 4 analog inputs and use analog triggering.”

Great Capabilities for the Price

From the hardware side, we are very pleased with the WebDAQ504. We are also generally pleased with the software but we have encountered a couple bugs when we acquire data over a number of hours. Tech support has been excellent and has given us confidence that these bugs will be addressed. This basic system is filling our needs to log and process data.

Great start but SW features need to mature

I liked the product and its idea but the usablility is still limited to us so that it did not meet our expectations yet. Hence we cannot recommend it yet. But we will try the 1.1.19 FW. We suggested following features to mcc already: provide true RMS for acceleration, velocity etc, enable saving/reading data in ASCII format, scaling (x-axis) is too coarse and one cannot read data points, saving of images did not work at all although provided (better testing needed), and entering the fudge factors for different sensor types is prone to error since its computation is not straight forward (e.g. factor for velocity-sensor with 25mV/mm/s).

Thank you for your review. We have forwarded your comments to the MCC Engineering team as we regularly add new features to the WebDAQ firmware, which is field upgradeable. Note that Version 1.1.19 of the WebDAQ firmware allows you to save acquired data in UFF and CSV format, allowing you to analyze vibration data using other software applications that support these file formats.

Good build quality, easy setup but poor functionality

I am impressed by the rugged enclosure and easy setup of the web interface. From unboxing to measure a test signal was less than 15 min (including apple bonjour installation) . On the negative side, there are to few options especially for the signal display. I am hoping for more functions in the next firmware. (This thoughts came from 3h of play with the system)

We appreciate you taking the time to write this review and for providing us with some quality feedback. We’re pleased that your “Out of the Box” experience was fast and efficient. Simple installations that shorten your time between setting up and your first measurements are an integral part of Measurement Computing’s mission. We are always looking to improve on our products and there is no better way to do that, than through our customer’s feedback. We here at MCC would like to hear more about what functions you feel the WebDAQ 504 would benefit from? We look forward to hearing from you.

When editing that job, use the right-most tab to add an Event of type “Job Stopped”. Then for that event, turn on “Transfer Data File” and also specify the destination where the file is to be transferred to.

The WebDAQ series are primarily stand-alone loggers. The data is always collected to the local storage (non-volatile memory). To receive relatively “live” data from the current job over the network, the Rest API can be used by a programmer. Up to 10000 samples can be read/requested each time. We provide Rest API examples in LabVIEW, C#, VB, and Python. If you need access to data during a sampling session, then use the Rest API, and the data it returns is in engineering units. Alternatively, you can map a Network folder or an FTP server, and the WebDAQ can automatically send its binary data files to that location in parallel to saving the data to its own memory. The data is sent at the end of the job (not live), and is binary (requiring conversion before being usable).

Yes, real time data and alarm status can be accessed using the REST API. The FFT, however, is performed real time and cannot be transferred using the REST API. FFTs would need to be performed dynamically using the real time data collected from your WebDAQ 504. The REST API can be downloaded from https://www.mccdaq.com/downloads/WebDAQ/REST-API/1.0.0/

Will the WebDAQ 504 record also TTL or similar pulse information from tachometer? Recording phase and accurate RPM from rotating machinery is critical information for vibration measurement and troubleshooting in general.

The digital I/O on the WebDAQ 504 is not setup for use with a Tachometer signal. The isolated digital I/O lines can be used as triggers to start or stop the acquisition or as alarm outputs. However, we do have other vibration DAQ devices that support a tach input. Please take a minute to review our DT9837 series or our DT9857E series DAQ devices for details. https://www.mccdaq.com/pdfs/specs/DT9837-Datasheet.pdf https://www.mccdaq.com/pdfs/specs/DT9857E-Datasheet.pdf

Acc. to datasheet the possible sample rates are 51200/n, where n is an integer. But using the REST API, I'm able to set other sample rates as well, like 2000 Hz, and the display shows everything correct in accordance to this sample rate. So is it a bug or you're using digital re-sampling ? If it's digital re-sampling, then what filters(and with what parameters) are being used for anti aliasing ?

Answers

Referring to the hardware specs, there are only 31 possible sample rates. (fM ÷ 256)/n, where n is any integer from 1 to 31. The lowest rate is 1.652 kS/s and the fastest is 51.2 kS/s. The WebDAQ 504 hardware is not capable of sampling at any other rates. You should only request one of the 31 possible rates. Outcomes using other rates are not known and not supported. MCC strongly recommends that the WebDAQ web interface (not the REST API) be used to create or modify schedules, jobs and device settings.

What is the difference between following two events in digitally triggered acquisition. 1. Digital Trigger 2. First AI Sample

Answers

The digital trigger input is sampled by software running on the logger, and therefore it can have a variable delay. I am seeing a delay of around 30 mS. If you have a spare AI channel on the WebDAQ 504, you could bring your trigger signal in on an AI channel. Triggering off of an AI input channel (rising slope) will have a faster response. I am seeing a delay of just one A/D sample.

Yes, the WebDAQ 504 is compatible with most IEPE transducers which include microphones. The data can be displayed in dBs but is not saved to file using the dB format, it's saved in its raw state. The WebDAQ 504 was designed with the intent that our customers would analyze the data using use a different software package for data analysis.

Answers

Yes; remove the onboard jumper W1 to start the WebDAQ whenever the power adapter is plugged in and receiving power. If a power loss occurs, the device will restart automatically when power is restored. You may also want to configure the Schedule to start on power up so it runs when power is restored. Refer to http://kb.mccdaq.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50733.aspx for more information.

The maximum sample rate for the WebDAQ 504 is 51,200.00 Hz. Yes, the frequency or Sample Rate is adjustable. There are 31 sample rate steps that you can use for the WebDAQ 504. To calculate your sample rate, simply take the fastest rate of 51,200.00 and divide it by one of the 31 steps. Ex: 51,200.00 Hz/31 = 1,651.6129 Hz (minimum sample rate)

Answers

The WebDAQ series does not support synchronization through a “Master/Slave” configuration, where the timing and clock signals are shared. This type of synchronization is not supported. Current options for synchronizing multiple WebDAQs are as follows:

  • Use the “Date&Time” option on each WebDAQ to start your acquisition at the same time.
  • Use an “External Digital” start trigger to start your WebDAQs at the same time.
  • Use an “External Analog” start trigger to start your WebDAQs at the same time.
