Excellent for processing encoder signals on a PC.

We have used the card for several years. Although we are only using one channel we have found it simple to switch to using other channels. Provided software is excellent for testing.

Proven Quadrature Encoder Board

Excellent Product, strongly recommended

I've used different quadrature cards for encoder quadrature data acquisition. This card is the best. The chips in the card provide multiple scale digital filter to filter out all the noise and make the data very reliable. The card works on different OS such as Windows, linux and Matlab, and even is supported with Matlab XPC target. Overall: It's a low cost, but very reliable quadrature card and has superior noise filter performance. I heard from other people about the bug of this card. But when I tested, there's no bug at all. The so called bug is because the people don't use it property. To make the card working well, my tips are : properly configure the filter according to maximum encoder frequency, use differential signal if possible, and connect all unused signals to power or ground to avoid noise input. The quad04 is the best product if compared to all the other similar quadrature products I used before.

Useful and cheaper than alternatives

C# Library is very useful and easy to integrate. It also works with real time linux interface based on Xenomai and Orocos. There is a bug in counter reading that occasionally (and randomly) returns weird count readings. I solved this with an ad-hoc approach. Simply, when I read a unexpected count, I re-read the encoder which solves my problem. But it would be good if MC fix the problem.

Does the job nicely

Good product and easy to control. But, needs an easier driver install method to incorporate into OEM install shields. 12V output line would be great to drive encoders. Finally fix the index bug so we dont have to tie the lines.

Bug in the basic counter read routine

The basic function of 4 quadrature inputs to a PC is useful. InstalCal worked well enough. TraceDAQ is not particularly useful. Hard to adjust which channels are active, what the displayed gains are. Mostly the aqusition depth is tiny for a PC based system. Most of your demerits come because of a bug in cbCIn32(), the routine provided that reads a counter. Several hours of bug chasing later, I find that this function reads a low word and a high word sequentially, and does not check whether a count has occured between the two reads. This causes random falacious data. The problem is fixed by putting a wrapper around cbCIN32() that reads it repeatedly until it reads the same twice.

The PCI-QUAD04 supports up to 4 incremental quadrature encoders. Our USB-QUAD08 supports simultaneous input and decoding of up to eight incremental quadrature encoders. Having 6 encoders the USB-QUAD08 would be the recommend Quadrature encoder DAQ device for your application.
